If you haven’t heard about Cullen Loeffler, you might over the weekend or in the coming weeks (or never). He’s a great guy who gets little exposure, unless he screws up on the job. He’s the Vikings long snapper and he’s been with the Vikings for seven seasons.
Loeffler doesn’t expect much, but a little exposure and recognition wouldn’t hurt. Loeffler and his punter, Chris Kluwe, finally hit a breaking point this week, enough, enough of Loeffler being left off the EA Sports Madden Football Game!
The PR exposure that Loeffler is receiving from this story in gameinformer magazine, a top video gaming magazine, is pretty remarkable. He’s done local and national radio and was featured on ESPN First Take this morning. The story below came from Kluwe and Loeffler joking about how he’s not on Madden but every other player on the team is, including some who will get cut in Training Camp. They had fun, pitched it to gameinformer and got the hit.
I say, “Don’t forget to have fun,” because thanks to a little bit of fun and humility, Loeffler will be one of, if not the, most popular long-snapper in the league. It will be interesting to see how long they can keep the buzz from this story. Keep an eye on Twitter. Will there be a website? A Facebook fan page? Could it get him into the Pro Bowl? Maybe, that’s voted on by the fans.
Loeffler’s comment on the radio this morning: It is costing EA Sports at least $20 in revenue, at least.
