Roger Raymond Nelson (aka Prince) declared recently that “the Internet is completely over.” Some may find this statement startling, but for a gentleman who thought 1999 would be a big party year, rather than the Y2K paranoia feast that it was, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise.
Roger says he will be distributing his new CD 20Ten as an FSI in anewspaper. This is all very clever because, well, here I am thinking about it. I’ve not thought about Roger since his tribute to the Minnesota Vikings last fall which was, arguably, not his strongest effort.
It’s easy to dismiss his comment as a great PR stunt to get attention, or the mad ramblings of anyone who feels the need to release 32 albums; or suggest his belief is grounded in his frustration of music piracy on the Internet. (BTW, that’s MY original artwork above, Roger — but, feel free to use it for your 33rd LP.)
Whatever the reason, I love Prince — more than I love the Internet, in fact. And while his statement may be questionable, parties aren’t meant to last, you know.
