I don't think it will compete with Twitter or Facebook. Twitter can be linked to Google Buzz, and I think that Facebook updates will probably do the same. I think Buzz is a nice way to organize all of one's social media sites, but I don't think it can stand alone.

Agreed -- I think that, for now, the folks who use Google Buzz will be early adopters. (Like us.) Many people may not ascribe value to Buzz yet.

I think the SEO benefits could be real. The access to customer email addresses could be even more real. But I'm still in a "wait and see mode" to see how/if people are using it

I think calling it a 'direct competitor' is a bit of a stretch. I know the functions are the same, but Google Buzz (in my opinion) is not currently, and will not ever be, a competitor for Facebook or Twitter.

Even though it has that built in GMail user base, that doesn't mean all the users will adapt it. Most people I know that already use Twitter already gave up on Buzz, and the GMail users I know that DON'T use Twitter aren't about to jump into some other social networking tool for the same reason they haven't joined Twitter (they either don't get it or don't like it).

I posted my initial reaction to Buzz at the Atomicdust blog (http://www.atomicdust.com/blog/single/first-impressions-on-google-buzz/) and they were mostly negative... But I'm not giving up on buzz just yet. I'm hoping after using it for a few weeks, I will be able to see some unique, competitive advantages.
