Techcrunch reports that Facebook users now more than double that of MySpace. Recent data shows that 200 million unique users visited Facebook — that’s more than one out of every five people that went online. I know that’s not four out of the five dentist’s surveyed, but still, 20 percent of EVERYTHING is, well, significant.

Of course, sites like Facebook and MySpace are simply tools that help people connect with one another. But it appears from the data that Facebook is pounding the nail more effectively. And, to add insult to injury, some have deemed TODAY International Delete Your MySpace Account Day.

Rebekah Horne, vice president of Fox Interactive Media and MySpace in Australia and New Zealand replied via news.com regarding the Big Day:

“This Delete-Your-MySpace day is just about being controversial. MySpace is still the biggest social networking site in the world.”

What’s curious is that the blogger that conceived of IDYMAD provided an exhaustive list of his frustrations. In that blogger’s mind, at least, it didn’t seem to be just about being controversial.

Awaiting with great anticipation to see the results of said effort.
