Tomorrow Yahoo! Brazil is introducing a new version of their homepage, http://br.yahoo.com/, and is trying out an unusual method of promoting it — creating their own lunar eclipse. Well, at least that’s how they’re billing it.
Here’s a video of Yahoo! co-founder Jerry Yang explaining the campaign, and even using a piece of fruit to showcase how Yahoo! will pull the Earth to the side to create the eclipse.
In truth, the partial lunar eclipse to be visible in South America tomorrow was not caused by Celestial Marketing that (according to this press release) specializes in “marketing services such as advertising on the moon, spaceship brand takeover, and of course, creating global ‘experiences’ such as branded eclipses.”
Instead, it’s a clever, integrated campaign with microsites, a live stream, broadcast, web video, radio and print ads that speak to Yahoo! Brazil’s August 16th lunar eclipse as the day the brand will change forever.
