Jaanix is a freshly minted social bookmarking Web site with a brand new way of organizing data. The site takes the bookmarking premise of del.icio.us, mashes it together with the voting feature from Digg and adds a new twist on the theme by personalizing the entire site for each user.

As with Digg, Jaanix users can either up-vote a story (“Jaa”) or down-vote it (“nix”). But unlike Digg, where every user sees the same front page, Jaanix lets users choose the type of story they want to see on their front page.

Jaanix-ers adjust the sliders on the right side of the page to create their own special blend of topics such as news, humor, popular, art, science and business. Once selections have been made, simply twist the knobs and the page instantly reloads with the appropriately tagged items.

Is Jaanix encouraging the balkanization of media? It seems inevitable that people will continue to seek out media that parlays to their own pre-existing biases, so maybe this is a smart move by Jaanix. At least we social media users will all be meeting at the same place, even if we don’t read the same news.
