Election

Can the right font make the difference in a media-driven election? It’s nearly impossible to see Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama at a speaking engagement without one of his two favorite banners in the background: “Change We Can Believe In” and “Stand for Change.”

The blogosphere has been buzzing this week about Obama’s “change” font — Gotham — designed by Hoefler & Frere-Jones and familiar to all Microsoft Word users.

In addition to the banners, Obama’s font of choice is also used on his yard signs, buttons and yes, campaign Web site. Originally commissioned for GQ Magazine, Gotham was designed to feel masculine and “of-the-moment.” Did you notice?
